Tante Fichte

Croatian cuisine and premium wines

Local ingredients meet Croatian recipes

A taste of Croatia can be enjoyed at Tante Fichte: a neighborhood restaurant with gourmet standards that opened in March 2021 on the well-known Fichtestraße in Kreuzberg. Together with restaurant manager Viktoria Kniely and head chef Dominik Matokanovic, owner Michael Köhle presents a very personal kitchen that combines the best regional products with influences from Croatian cuisine. The focus lies on regional produce from local manufacturers, seasonal ingredients, and homemade delights. Their vegetables come from Peter Janoth in Brandenburg, meat from “Hunter” Jörn Korte, grains, eggs, milk, and fruit from Ökohof Kuhhorst, and fish from Fischhandlung Sattelberg-Pelikan. Ironically, restaurant manager and hobby gardener Viktoria Kniely has her own urban garden in Moabit, where she grows herbs that are also used for various dishes on the menu. Also, despite the high quality of all the dishes, the atmosphere is rather loose, following the motto of joie de vivre.

Feel-good atmosphere in Kreuzberg

Another major topic of Tante Fichte's concept is wine. Most of the 650 versions on their menu come from Germany, Austria, and France, but there are also wines from the rest of Europe represented, sourced from various retailers and wineries. It can be down-to-earth or classic, tenacious or wild, what matters is the overall character of the product. However, the Tante Fichte team also pays special attention to non-alcoholic beverages, such as homemade herbal extracts, kombucha, and kefir. To showcase this diversity, the restaurant also has a small wine bar and a wonderful terrace in addition to the main dining room. The inviting dining room impresses with a stylish interior: white-painted brick walls, beautiful arches, and selected works of art by Nelson Jamal and Michail Fanghaenel. Comfortable chairs and tables, which are custom-made for the restaurant with solid oak, convey a feel-good atmosphere. Here you can sit well for a long time without being distracted by too much design and other frills. In summer, the terrace, which is framed by hedges, invites you to spend relaxing evenings under the awning. This place is a Berlin institution for a reason.
